Clay Conference Part II Celebrate the Object

Shoko's piece in the photo below (invitee of Michael Kline) was the most exquisite thing in the show to me. I heard a lot of others say the same. There were so many beautiful pieces in the show and we walked by them every day as we went to the various studios. Every time I walked through the gallery I saw something new about a piece. It was heaven! I have photos of all of the pieces but sadly some of the photos are not so great. The conditions were a nightmare, sparkly lights and everything under glass. So here are the best shots I got, not great quality, sorry.

i find it interesting that the utilitarian clay conference put the works behind glass. something about that seems wrong.

me too! Hey Brandon, when they invite us, we'll let them know we want our pots out so people can handle them.

I know what you mean. Even better were the "Do not touch" signs everywhere. It was maddening! How many of us can leave a pot without turning it over or feeling the inside of it?

One of the things I love about some craft fairs are the signs in the potters booths that say: please touch. I think I would rather take the risk that my work is broken (I mean how precious is it really?) than be off limits.

It was great to finally meet you as well. You are my hero, three kids and a full time potter making really beautiful stuff?! I really don't know how you do it! Wish we could have spent more time together but it was crazy wasn't it?
