Rising Earth firing

Wesley and I went out to Susan Wells studio yesterday to see the latest Rising Earth sculpture being fired. She built it on site(see previous post) and wood fired it wrapped in ceramic fiber. quite the labor of love. 400 lbs. of clay, 12 hour firing, kiln decided it was done at 1950 and didn't want to do anymore so they shut 'er down. Can't wait to see the unveiling next Saturday. Come on out if you are in the area.
Jonas and I roasted marshmellows while Susan and Rochelle stoked the kiln.

Susan and Tim are the very cutest couple I know!

Wanted to say that I enjoyed meeting you at conference and enjoy your blog. I sometimes am more of a "lurker" (is that what Michael called folks who just read but don't comment?) because of time constraints. It would be so easy to eat up all my production time surfing all the great pottery stuff online. If you get to the Gastonia area, let me know!

I know what you mean, I lurk a bit too, but I enjoy everyone's blogs so much. I try to find time every once in a while to respond just so people know I am paying attention! Would love to visit your studio one day.
