Liberty Arts

Liberty Arts is a sculpture studio and a bronze and aluminum casting studio in downtown Durham with a really cool outdoor space. Durham Arts Council has asked me to teach a raku class and the kiln will be located in this very cool gazebo near the casting area. I am so excited about this class and the location. It has me thinking about taking a casting class there. Oh the possibilities with raku and aluminum casting. I need to get through the summer with all of the kids camps and classes I have already booked and do some serious thinking about where I'm going. There was a great article by Diane Fyat at CeramicsArtsDaily.org yesterday where she was talking about making the change to a full time potter and giving up all of the things pulling her in so many directions. I think I am about to reach the same place and need to make some decisions. Gotta run, more thoughts later..................

Yep, the kiln is like a baby version on mine. I think having a class at the foundry will be so much fun, especially if they are casting while we are doing raku firings. Look forward to your opening Friday, I'm planning on being there with Wes, I think Gerry has to shoot some hockey game or something.....

that sounds like a great opportunity... i was a metal caster in college and there are some similarities to raku... all that fire and grabbing things out of hot kilns and furnaces, it can be addicting.

Wow, how exciting to work there and what a great photo; that must be a really neat building viewed from the inside too.
