Raku photos

Here are some snaps from raku weekend. I'm pretty happy with everything, now I have to figure out what I can sell and what I can't part with. My pots are like my little kids and I have a hard time giving them up. I really like giving them to friends more than selling them. Not exactly the way to make a living as a potter though is it!?

Jen, here is your tile. I made it the day you posted the conundrum blog. I love that word! I need to get a ribbon for it and I will send it to you.
The plates came out more gray than I would have liked but I am getting used to them. They look like ancient relics. They also got the Wes approval, so that's good.

I like the way the copper ran into the white..............
This bowl also looks very old. It was sitting on top of a burner and got toasty. I like it.

I need to scrub the planters and I'll get some more (amateur) pics up. One day that photographer I live with is going to have a crap load of pots to shoot!

Looks like you've figured out the white crackle and the turquoise, Tracey. Nice pots. Sell, sell, sell ...

Very nice work! Do you mind sharing the formula for the turquoise crackle? Thanks!

Actually, Hollis, I'm still working on this white crackle. Sometimes it gets more gray than I like and sometimes it is very very white. I can't tell yet what makes it go one way or the other, I'm going to have to do more work on this.
Mike: the turquoise is Rick's Turquoise, very finicky, but if you work with it, it's fun. It likes to get air before going into a trash can.Put pottery in a nest of ripped up newspaper, flame for a few seconds, then mist with a hose, then dunk in water to cool. No reduction. In reduction it goes crazy, yellow, red, no consistency, but I have had some fun surprises.

Gerstley Borate: 33
Neph Sy: 17
Spodumene: 17
Lithium carb: 17
Zircopax: 16
copper carb: 2.2
I think the copper could be stronger, I may try adding more in my next batch

wow, you got some beautiful results, I love the crackle white and turquoise. How do you make your letters, the tile came out great?

Oh Tracey I feel as you do so many times, my pots are like my children and I hate to sell them. I sold my fairy plate and a red bowl recently and I miss them. Be sure to get some good photos of everything before it leaves, some I didn't and I regret it and some I only have rather ugly photos I took and wish I had better ones now.

This work is fabulous -- not just the colors - but the forms as well. You must (finally) be happy with the kiln!

Or keep them and make more!
Looks like a great firing lots of fun!

Linda I made the letters from a set of stamp I got at Michaels craft store. They were in the kid's craft area labeled for use on stepping stones. they are plastic and create a rather deep cut. Thanks for the comments Judy and Meredith!
