I put terra sig on my big pot today, I decided to sawdust fire it since I won't be able to lift it out of my raku kiln. Forethought would have been good when I was building this thing! Then I thought, hmmmm..... what if I put terra sig on my mugs since I still haven't figured out what to do with them, and then I thought what about some underglaze and some stain..... and before I knew it I had a bunch of cups ready to go into the bisque! I think I like where this is going. I used to be a set designer and one of the things I regularly got stuck doing was faux finishing walls, floors, furniture. Staining these cups felt a lot like that and then a little light went off and I thought, why haven't I tried to apply that to pottery before? It's so simple, it's what I know! Let's hope the firing doesn't take this patina away too much, I really like them like they are, but sadly bone dry pottery won't hold liquids :)
Looks like a pumkin doesn't it!
LOVE this!
and then there is Mick! I have had this poster since I was in High School. Can you believe that! Anyway, he is in my studio and I had my camera so I thought I would snap a pic for ya!

I usually just come by to see the pretty pictures and read about the different ways you fire your pieces hoping that some day I can get back into pottery and don't say anything. But I love the look of stains and those mugs are just so lovely the way they look right now. Thanks for the pictures. :)
Everything looks great Tracey you are just cooking!
Thanks DK, I left a message for you over at your blog. Hey MH, I had a good day today!
wow, mick in your studio! You're a true fan. I think I'm gonna be a fan of your terra sig mugs. They look great!
Those mugs do look good, Tracey. I'm eager to see what they look like when they're fired.
Tracey - I love what you are doing right now! The decoration & use of color & form are fabulous. Can't wait to see them finished.
wow... that terra sig looks luscious, hope it retains some of that after the firing. i always seems to like the look of damp greenware better than the finished surface
You're really onto something there - very intriguing !
Once they are glaze fired you may find the surface a little hostile to the touch so you may want to experiment with a light spray of satin or gloss clear.
Looking forward to seeing them finished, Colleen
Hi all: thanks for the comments! Jim, I just wish we could find a way to use greenware! Especially at that certain leather hard burnished stage! I hate glazing, I just like the way the clay looks. I think that is why I am going in this pit firing direction.
The mugs are burnished ans will be low fired so I am hoping for a softer surface that just dry clay. I may have to give them a little clear glaze but I want a mat feel, so, we shall see.....
You are really on a roll, the cups looks great. I'm with you sometimes I wish the work would look just like it does before it's fired. Can't wait to see how the cups turn out.
The pumpking jar - is that a new clay? I love that rich color.
Hi Linda: The "pumpkin" jar just has terra sig on it. I plan to fire it in a sawdust fire sometime this week and the terra sig will give me some color other than just a black smoked pot.
hey trace inspired stuff, truly cool...
The stains look fab on your pieces, Trace. Oh and thanks for that visual jolt of a young Mick. So sweet indeed.
