Let the games begin

Gerry called from Vancouver this morning. He has been assigned to the floor for the opening ceremonies at the Olympics. This is HUGE for him! He and one other photographer will be on the floor in a white suit they have been given, so if you see a shooter with a white suit and a very expensive camera that's him (or the other guy). I told him to save some images for my blog, hopefully he will send me something. Last night Canon and Nikon threw a party for the media at the Vancouver Aquarium. He had dinner and beers next to the whales, so cool. I asked if he had any photos from there for me and this was the answer, "well, I did shoot some but I had a bunch of beers and I was messing with my camera and somehow formatted the card." My reply was, Ger, you are there as a professional photographer to cover the Olympics and you lost images for my blog!!!!!????? Jeezzz. Keep your fingers crossed for him that his cameras work tonight! This is probably the biggest event he has covered in his career. I mean, he went to Iraq and that was big, but this is really big! The best photographers in the world are there and he is on the FLOOR!
I'll post some photos if I get any.

That boy will have a great time, Tracey. There's nothing like that kind of assignment. We'll be looking.

I know Hollis, I'm pretty envious. I keep thinking, "I can't believe he is there." I remember right out of college when he was getting pet of the week assignments and loathing them but happy to be working at a newspaper. Man, he's come a long way!
