Biutiful

The great thing about living with someone that wants to go to film school is I see a lot of films I wouldn't see on my own. Wesley studies film more than she studies her school subjects. Today we went to see Buitiful. It was not even on my radar except for the fact that Javier Bardem was in it, and he is the greatest actor out there right now as far as I'm concerned! This film is amazing and sadly tonight for the Oscars, it will probably get overlooked for the more Hollywood money movies. But this one should win. The acting, the story, the cinematography, the art direction, everything is spot on and brilliant. This is what film makers should be striving for, not another Ironman or Avatar, this is brilliant movie making! It won't make you feel good, it is bleak and sad and thought provoking, and has subtitles, but when I leave a theater speechless, I know I have seen a good film.
And ladies, looking at Javier for two hours in this movie is not a bad thing!

OK, it's on our watch list. We just came from our favorite Bear Tooth Theatre Pub and seeing Harry Potter (for the second time -this time with good beer & food). We've been on a Gus-movie-see streak:
-Harry Potter
-Green Hornet
-True Grit (GREAT)
-Dinner for Schmucks

Daddy-O and I are due for some good "R" or art flicks!

Haven't been to a movie in years, I may have to drag Gary to see this one. So cool you and Wesley get to see movies together. the title reminds me of some of the craigslist ads I see - so many mis spellings, but not on purpose.

Hadnt bin ta a moobie in yars, may hav ta drag Geary ta see dis un.

Maybe I'll do a post on all the funny ones I read. Ha.

It's on our list, too, Tracey. We saw Bardem last week in "The Sea Inside," another Spanish film that deals with a difficult topic. But they do that well, as does Javier. You and Dee share the "two hours of Javier Bardem is not a bad thing" opinion ...

javier is great. it's funny because when my sister visited a year or so ago we rented "no country for old men" and sofia's mom and my sister had never seen him in anything before. they both made comments during the film about how gross and ugly he was and i mentioned that he probably was quite handsome in real life and they poo poo-ed me about it. fast forward to "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and they seemed to have forgotten how ugly and hideous he was in the other movie. i'll have to check out biutiful

maybe instead of treking to the movie I can just sit and stare at the image you posted of Javier for two hours instead.
