Out before I'm in

I've been working on a bunch of these little dishes, just to keep my hands busy and my mind still. My very wise daughter said to me this week, "Never make a decision in a social situation". This is the best advise I have been given in a very long time.
I have decided, in the quiet of my studio, not to get involved with this new co op gallery. I am just not a team player and this group decision making thing is getting on my very last nerve. I know this co op thing works for lots of folks, but it's not working for me. Too bad, it's a very nice group of people, oh well.......

I hear ya' sister. I'd like to think I play well with others but only if I'm in charge!

Something else will present itself. As one door closes another will open.

I don't even care if I'm in charge anymore, I just want the ones that are in charge to be fun! I have plenty to do anyway so no worries. I have that only child thing, I play well alone!

I am the 4th of 5 and i don't want to go co-op either.
There is one opening here and like you- no thanks- not interested.
I did not go in business for myself to be a part of a group.
Does not play well with......

That's not true at all you two. You play well, just not with everyone... I've got to raise my hand on that one as well. Ouch!

Well, Trace, I commented in your original post that I had been a member of such a coop. What I didn't say was it lasted about three years and I left. I think you've made a good decision.

The situation has to be right for you or it won't work and you won't be happy. Cindy is so right - one door closes and another one opens.

As the number of people involved increases,The number of interactions and potential problems is the number of members squared.Yikes!

Artists! We are all a bit strange aren't we :) But in a good way!
Z got it right though, it has to be the right group and then I play just fine.

Very wise child you have there -- and a very good decision -- their loss! I also subscribe to the door closing & another opening theory -- lots of opportunities all around - just need the right fit.

Also, I tested the Yellow Salt in this recent firing and it looks pretty good on the brown stoneware. Thanks for the recipe.

i was worried about how the decision making process would go with this new co-op here. we have been running our meetings in a very organized fashion, have an agenda that we go through, discuss, vote on each item and move to the next. there are only 10 members and really no room to grow. i think small is better. time will tell.

Funny you posted this as I am exploring the idea of starting a co op with a couple of friends. We're in the very beginning stages, and I'd like to see something good come of it. I think I can play well with others. I even take direction pretty well, unless it's the hub teaching me something.

Hollis, what didn't work with your experience?

I'm with you Tracey. I have been approached more than a few times about sharing my space. But, after years of being part of various teams, I LOVE having my own space and doing things without needing to consult a soul. I covet it. Love having my stuff everywhere, my music blaring, my hours, my timing, my own interactions with visitors. It's all about me! :)

I just wish you lived in England so I could order some of your beautiful dishes as soap dishes!! They are so lovely. I think your decision is bang on too! X :-)

I am bad co op material. I hate committees and meetings. I like to be either making my own decisions and moving forward with them,or, being given a task to complete. I can't even stand going to band parent's meetings.lol. 20 minutes in and I am ready to scream at other mommies to get a life outside their kids. I would be a disaster as a co operative member.
