Day One

Well, with the help of a 12 pack, my awesome construction crew got all the lumber moved to the site and got a floor built yesterday!
This "storage shed" is just going to be set on blocks so that if I really love it, one day when we move to the farm of our dreams, I'll put it in the truck and take it with me :)
It was a beautiful day, warm, Carolina blue skies, and I had two smart, crazy, and very funny guys here to help me. Thanks to Ryan and Jake for busting their asses yesterday!

Thanks also to my lovely Wesley for her help and for cheering me on through all of this!
My life is in utter chaos right now. There is lumber and pottery stuff everywhere I turn and it's the only thing on my mind right now. Git er done!!!!
I'm sorting out everything that I want to move into the building and everything that needs to be thrown out here on the deck, sort of like a staging area. I just noticed that Cindy Shake's raven banner is hanging there, I think it will be a nice addition.
Thanks to all of you for your comments here on my blog. I am reading every one of them and loving them. Sorry I am not replying right now to each individual comment the way I like to but once I check email, return email, read my blog and read all of your blogs, I have to get up and go do something. There isn't much sitting still right now, so keep the comments coming, I love the support, and I'll get back to the comments once this is over. I have been thinking of those of you that have had studio construction, Meredith and Chris with their fires, Micheal Kline when he was building his, Joseph Sand and Alex Matisse who just went off on their own after leaving Mark's place, Judy who moved her son out and studio in, then it flooded, and the rest of you who have posted about your studios. We are a tough bunch aren't we, to go through what we do just to get our hands and everything else around us dirty and then make something that we hope others will love. Crazy potters, all of us!!!

You are moving girl! Looks like a great work crew! You have such a good eye for putting stuff together -- this studio won't just be a place to work -- but a work of art in itself! YAY

Yeah, you know I gotta get my interior design fix any way I can! Working with this crew yesterday sure made me miss my days of building showrooms and sets.

Funny how even though we don't know each other this is exciting to me to read about :) I guess I'm recalling how exciting it was when we built mine and I was able to move from an extra room in the house (what a mess. i was using red clay at the time!) to my own separate space. Happy for you - looking forward to seeing it progress.

Tracey, I think you will have a 'bouncy' floor if you don't add more cinderblocks under the foundation...at least put one pier in the exact middle.

YES! YES! YES! This is going to be so much fun to watch as it comes together it will all be worth it.
Keep those pictures coming!
Excitement is in the air... I can feel it from here.

Barbara thanks for your enthusiasm! Dan, yes there are more cinder blocks to be added and yes it is a bit bouncy right now. We underestimated how steep the grade was on my lot and ran out of blocks trying to get the four corners level, so I have to go get more. Hey, Meredith, I'm more in a fog than excited right now there is such a mess, but it is great to finally get going on this. As you can see, I am sitting here waiting on my guys so I have a little time for blogging!

You might have a jumble of stuff now, but just think how great it's going to be once complete!

Way to go, Trace. You know you've got serious builders working for you when one of them is wearing a t-shirt that says, "Save water, drink beer." Those guys are the real deal. It will be fun to see what it looks like inside.

YOU GO GIRL!! This is so exciting to watch!! ...I was also thinking what Dan said... maybe even use pier blocks with saddles down the center line to attach due to the steep grade. So glad to see you'll have "Tracey Space!"
