While I'm waiting....

First of all I wanted to say thanks to all of you for your good wishes and cheers on the last post. I really appreciate your comments, they were so fun to read today after I got home.
Yesterday I started packing up the stuff in the upstairs bedroom that I have been using to work in. What a mess! I cleaned all of my tools, every last one of them,
I sharpened all of my trim tools and knives. These four tools are my favorites and the stone was my dad's. He always had a pocket knife in his pocket and kept them razor sharp. I don't think a day went by that he didn't pull his knife out to use it for something.
I put everything in it's own little organized place,
and THEN, today I went SHOPPING! I got a door and windows and some old wood for shelves at the Habitat reuse store and got it all for $60!!!! and then my friend Suzanne brought her son by and he dropped off his tools and will be back in the morning to get started. Whoo Hoo!!! Here we go!
Just picture this: sparkly clean glass, thick old weathered boards for shelves, glossy white walls, windows with chipping paint that swing up from the bottom and are propped open to let in the breeze, studio sitting back in the trees, rooster crowing, tools clean and sharp and lots of work to be made. Sigh................
These boards are going to make great shelves
I got this door for seven dollars!! I love shopping and finding treasure like this. I love the patina and chipping paint and rust, you just can't walk in to Home Depot and get wood that has chipping paint. When I was a set and prop designer I lived for finds like this. Most plays I did were period pieces and everything needed to look old. Shopping today brought back those days of poking around in the strangest places to find the perfect thing for a set. Maybe I should go into studio planning for artists when I get this one done. I know how to do it on an artist's budget that's for sure! Day one tomorrow.....

That's great news Tracey. You're moving out of the bedroom and i'm just about to move into one... then you'll get a barn and i'll get my shack! Love seeing tools of peoples trades(there's a post i must do). Can you guys over there still carry pocket knives? we're in big trouble over here if you get caught out with one. Sometimes after a productive weekend i'll forget it's still in my pocket. It's so annoying not having one, but then i walk around town and see some of the people and i'm glad knives aren't allowed!! (my father-in-law in Montana keeps sending me knife sets and just doesn't get the concept!)
Can't wait to see you all settled in your new home!
Good luck with the build.

just a thought... i am not sure how old your shelving boards are but you should probably test the peeling paint for lead before installing them.

Thanks so much for sharing these exciting times with us. It will be a joy to see your new studio come together here. Makes me want to do something with the old tool shed out back on our property. And there's a Habitat ReStore within walking distance of where I work. Hmmmmm.....
