Empty nest #2

I met my good friend Barbara McKenzie at the Crafts Gallery yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see that this tile had sold. I titled it Empty Nest and how ironic that it sold at the same time my baby birds left their nests!
On a sad note, after I left Barbara, I had a traumatic experience. I was close to the road that I live on when the truck in front of me hit a beautiful chocolate doberman puppy that ran out in front of him. The owner, a young girl was standing at the mailbox, just in shock. I stopped my car, ran out to the dog and it was still alive. I had a mat in my car so we scooted the dog onto the mat and I rushed off to the vet which was just a few blocks away. Sadly by the time I got there the dog had died. I waited in the parking lot for the girl to get there and the vet tech and I had to tell her that the dog didn't make it. She just crumbled and I sat there in the parking lot holding this poor girl while she cried and cried. My heart just broke for her. I didn't get her name, the nice people at Cole Park Vet hospital took her in and tried to console her and I left. She has my card and number, I hope she will call and let me know how she is. I just can't get her and her poor dog out of my head. I came home to my sweet dog, and let me tell you, he got a whole bunch of attention for the rest of the day!
On a happier note, I'm taking this piece over to the Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh today for the NC Landscape show, so nice to have been selected again this year. This barn is a really nice one. It will be there through June....

Oh Tracy. What an awful thing. What I love is that you did the RIGHT THING. That little girl was lucky you were there.

(and your barns rock)

Thank goodness you were there to help the girl, sad about her dog, congrats on that great barn, the colors are so soft on it.

I also felt so sorry for the driver of the truck, he was really upset. I hope I did the right thing, taking the dog, what if this girl gets a vet bill she can't pay,it all happened so fast, all I could think was get the dog to the vet since it was still alive. It was good to know that I can stay calm in a crisis and do what is necessary. I have never come up on a car wreck and have wondered if I would be the kind of person to stop, guess maybe I would...

Heartbreaking...you did do the right thing and you did it out of a loving heart. Of course you are good in a crisis- most acoa's are ;)

I love that empty nest piece. Your work is so expressive and I will continue to call it "soulful".

Glad your hound was there for you to give and get some good lovin' after a difficult experience. I once heard a quote about animals being the window to our souls- or something like that. So true~

Thanks Kathy! If Tyler is a window to my soul, there is a whole bunch of crazy in there, my dog isn't the brightest bulb, sweet as anything, but he's a bit goofy :) maybe you're right after all haha!

Lovely new pieces Tracey and yes you did the right thing. Who was to know if the poor dog couldn't have made it. Sometimes they just get the wind knocked out of them. That must have been so traumatic for everyone. Those images and sounds take a long time to fade.

Several years ago we witnessed a yellow lab all excited that his owner had just returned from a hike on the side of the highway and as the owner let him out he wiggled and danced right into the oncoming path of the car in front of us. It was one of the most horrific scenes our family had ever witnessed. The owner's howling grief, the car in front of us, our car swerving dangerously towards the guardrail from the dog's initial impact and the site of the poor dog. We made the kids keep down in the back seat as to no see any of these images that have yet to leave my memory. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

The girl whose dog was hit was lucky to have you there, Tracey. Tough situation.

Hey Max and Hollis, thanks! Cindy, what a horrible story, I have been there, Gerry and I lost our first dog to a car, it hurts so much to lose a pet that way.
