Hey there

Thanks for the comments about Gerry's photo yesterday, I didn't have time to respond to all of them but read them all, passed on to Ger!
Thanks also to the folks that have featured my raku barn on Etsy, the treasuries look great. I keep thinking I would like to do a treasury, but there's another time suck, just can't get to it.
This is the last raku barn I have, one is on hold for someone. I really like the raku barns and they are all surviving the thermal shock. I can remember when I first started doing raku I was told by many that my slab work would not survive, well it does if you build it right!
In other news, Gerry and I have had to do a 360 on our vacation plans. We were going on a backpack trip to Colorado, but the trails we chose have 5ft or more of snow on them, there are avalanche warnings and so..... we are heading to Maine, New Hampshire and a short side trip through Cape Cod to see Hollis and Dee! Big shift here, Gerry spent months mapping out the Rockies trip and now I am mapping out Maine, the white Mts. in New Hampshire and a side trip to the Cape. Whew..... campground reservations, back country permits, hotel stops with our Marriott points, and figuring out what we want to see. If any of you have ANY suggestions, please pass them on!! Michele.... NH?!? Hollis is sending me some things, thank you :) and we are looking forward to seeing him and Dee on our way home. Looks like the Colorado snows might be a blessing, we have been to Colorado several times but I have only been to Maine once long ago when I worked for Old Town Canoe. Looking forward to seeing it with my family and not during a sales meeting! Know any good trails, restaurants, things we can't miss?!?!

Hi Tracy! LOVE the blog :) I live in the heart of the White Mountains in Randolph, NH. Are you guys attempting a Mt. Washington or Mt.Adams (my fave) hike? If you are going to be up in our neck of the woods I can give you lots of recommendations...one restaurant not to be missed is Libby's Bistro/Saalt pub. Really awesome- Liz the chef/owner is a protege of Julia Child. You can check out her menu at www.libbysbistro.net. Also beautiful spots are Bethlehem, Franconia, Littleton, Errol, etc...I could go on and on!

Well..Littleton has a league of NH craftsmen gallery and a bunch of yummy restaraunts including Tim-bir Alley which is awesome :) Bethlehem has a really great coffee shop maiya papaya and the wren gallery with some great local artists work (including mine!) what towns are you planning to stay in? I can give you some better suggestions then. The mountain view grand hotel in whitefield is quite beautiful and has great horseback riding. Northwoods rafting are buddies in Milan and you can take a wild ride down the river...north Conway is super touristy and busy but has some good stuff going on like the Stonehurst manor- lovely fine dining- Jackson has some gorgeous inns and The Thompson House Eatery which never disappoints. Can you tell I like food? LOL

Hi Tracey,
Maine is awesome! We love Mt. Desert Island to hang out at Acadia park. If you plan to camp go to Mt. Desert Campground. It's a family owned, no RV place that has platforms for tents. Pop-ups are also welcome there. If you go- must have lobster at Thurstons and popovers at the Jordan Pond House!

Arethusa falls and the Flume are pretty freaking awesome to...

Hey Maria, thanks for the info! Very helpful!! We are tent camping in Acadia for a week and then going into the back country in the White Mts, probably staying at shelters on the AT. I doubt we will get to the shopping thing once we get in the woods, although art galleries sound very tempting to me, maybe I'll sneak away! Gerry is hoping to do a little climbing... I know once we hike out we will want good food, all of this sounds fantastic! Kathy, my friend Susan also mentioned Thurstons and the popovers so I know we have to do that! I knew my blogger friends would know where the good food is :)

If you get to Kennebunkport, do visit my sister's shop, Catwear--a wonderful women's wear that she designs and makes (with the help of some home-stitchers) in her workshop. She is "Cathering" of Catwear. Do say 'Hi' for me if you get there. It is right on the circle at the port.

Gay, that would be so fun to see your sister, if we get by there, I will definitely look her up!

you will LOVE the white mountains of NH! i have hiked a little more than half of the 4 thousand footers there along with a bunch of the smaller hikes. The AT huts are lots of fun to stay in - great food. Lakes of the Clouds on Mt Washington is my fave. get a AT guide of the white mountains - VERY helpful and comes with trail maps. the Presidential Traverse is a great hike, two nights out and you can stay in the huts. Maria mentioned Littleton- a very cool little town. jeff and i have work at the League of NH Craftsmen shop there... the ladies that run it are AWESOME!

we will be in NH the first full week of August for the League of NH Craftsmen show at MT Sunapee Resort... it's a 9 day outdoor show... the oldest continually running craft fair in the U.S.

Maria - you are a fellow NH potters guild member! i am the treasurer of the guild... i am in NC now but no one wants to be the treasurer so i continue to manage the books from afar :-)

I've been camping in Maine twice, once near the Canadian border and one along the coast. Both were equally beautiful, I don't think you can go wrong there.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi, Trace. We're both looking forward to seeing you guys in a few weeks. A friend I talked with yesterday suggested the Appalachian Mountain Club for information on the White Mountains. They're at http://www.outdoors.org/
Give that a try. Also, there's good rock climbing at the cliffs at Rumney, NH, not far from my parents' old home in Warren.

Michele thanks for the info, Lori I think you are right, looks like an easy place to have a great time! Hollis, Ger will appreciate the climbing beta, looks like I might be a belay slave on this trip!
