Back to the farm

As much as I have enjoyed the summer and have been influenced by my time at the beach, I'm ready to get back to the farm. I'm missing the comfort of making the barns that I know will turn out just fine every time.
I had a few pieces blow up in the kiln this week. The large barn I had the sand dollars on came apart at all the seams. I have made this same shape with success several times so I don't know what was going on, maybe it dried to fast... also a couple of buckets blew up, didn't let the terra sig dry enough I guess. And then I dropped a few things..... grrrr.
In case you are wondering I deleted the previous post to avoid being repetitious, I shot new pics of all this stuff this morning.

I'm not so fond of these, I liked them better before they got fired. They're ok, just not my favrorites...
I do like this one though
I think her head is a tad too small, maybe not, I don't know.....
The color of this one is so pretty, again, thanks Linda for convincing me to take another look, I almost bashed it up. The oxide wash helped a lot.
So, I have a slightly new palette, I'm adding a blue and a chartreuse to the rust and chrome colors. I like these colors together, but I'm thinking that the sea will go away for a little while. I do like the pails, so I'm making some rust ones to match my barns, and I'm deleting the shells.
What do you think? I have looked at all of this for so long I'm sick of it. I like it, just tired of looking at it. I haven't shown any of it yet to customers so I have no idea how any of it will be received. We'll see......

Don't worry about the two you were not so fond of.They will be someone's favorites.I think the piers under them really accent your beach theme.

We are always so critical of our own work. The two you are not fond of I like, they are very rustic and moody, like cracker houses perched above the water line, a little mold growing in the crevices over time. I like the oxide you've put on the turquoise it really enhances the color. don't give up on those colors they're great plus they are so popular with the public. If you don't like something put it in a closet for a week or a month and don't look at it, when you take it out it will be a new piece your really like. Ok now I need to follow these words myself. I have a bunch of work I shoved in cabinets and not thought of for months.

So weird that you all have commented on the two pieces that I don't really like, what do I know!? I think that I just have the memory of what they looked like leather hard, which was so cool, wish I could get that look!

i like them too... first thought was, she must not be talking about those! i agree that the piers are a nice touch. i am also fine with the scale of the head on your sculpture. i think it works and you should definitely make more.

Wow, don't think I've ever read such a negative blog from you Tracey, you must really be missing Wes. I love your more farmy things more than the beachy stuff to be honest but it feels like you need to work it out. So work!x

Wow, I can't believe that everyone has commented on the two pieces I don't like so much. Lily, I guess the post was a bit negative because I had opened my kiln to an explosion and I had spent the morning cleaning out pottery shards, and my favorite piece in the firing fell apart. Some days are just like that.... I have a little more focus today :) Thanks for your honesty about the beach things. I tend to agree with you.

I guess when someone who tends to sound so strong and confident voices doubt it really stands out as negative, good luck and I hope you don't have any more kabooms!

Ahhhh, Lily, that voice of doubt does rear it's ugly head from time to time :) thank goodness it is fleeting and usually a nice visit with my friends helps!
