Disappointment, Elation, Frustration

First of all the disappointment: I had a post about food and diet and got around 20 comments and over 200 views on that post. I post about the potential destruction of our coastal way of life and I get 2 comments, one email and around 150 views. I thought people would be as outraged as I was and go off on this topic.... hmmm....
Elation: I am married to a really great man, who bought me a Macbook pro 15" computer yesterday. I didn't say "new". It's new to me, but belonged to a friend of ours who changes Macs every time a new one comes out and I am the recipient of his old ones from time to time, lucky for me! It's still in fine shape and sure beats what I have been using, my poor little dinosaur.
This has been my Mac progression. Gerry bought me the little one up top for Christmas a few years ago. Then our friend bought this one I just got, so I got the middle one from him. We just got Wesley a Mackbook pro for college, Gerry has the same one plus an iMac desktop for work and now I have this one. That makes six Apple computers and three ipods, I think Apple should send us a coupon for something free! I know this looks a little sick, but Wesley's was discounted through the school and financed through her loan, Gerry gets his from the AP, and I got a deal you would not even believe, so don't think we won the lottery or something! We are just resourceful.
and then begins Frustration! I am moving all of my files from my old computer to the new one, Holy Crap, what a day this has been. If you have a Mac you know that you can use Apple mail to send photos from iphoto. That is mostly what I use it for, the email part of it is futile and will drive you mad. For some reason I kept typing in the wrong smtp outgoing server and entering port 25 instead of port 587 and then I forgot to invite all of the accounts to go online, and then I didn't check the SSL box, see where I'm going with all of this!? This is just my humble opinion, mindspring is a big mind fuck, if you ask me, so I am switching to gmail. I tried to send out a group email with some minor success, but in case you didn't get it, I have a new email address that I am trying to move to. It is : traceybroome@gmail.com
simple, right!?

Upgrades and data transfers suck. We have been in Mac land from the beginning (graphic design forced my hand 20 years ago) and have never looked back -we too think we should get a frequent purchaser punch card for all of the Apple everything we have -ha! Our huge, old stereo and gigantic speakers got the toss and was replaced by Derek's ipod and dinky speakers that scream throughout the whole house!

I use Picasa and flash drives for photo transfers. We were laughing after just purchasing some inexpensive ($12!) new flash drives to back up our MacBook Pros that had oodles more Gigabytes than one of our workhorse vintage G4 towers. The G4 has a mere 2 gig hard drive that was HUGE eons ago!

Funny I was trying to leave a comment on your previous post... blogger kept jamming...
water is precious. The only water on this earth is the water we have.

Why do we act like we are invincible? The earth is going to let us have it and tell us exactly how selfish and greedy we are... and we will not be prepared.

I loved your post... in a sad, desperate way ;o)..

thanks for writing and sharing...

Hey Cindy, I had about 2gigs left on my old laptop and I couldn't even watch the video I posted on my own blog, how pitiful is that! It was time to give the poor old thing a rest. Hey Andrea, maybe more folks tried to comment and had blogger trouble or either they were like me after I saw the video and their minds were numb. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it, the people making it are some amazing artists!!!

I shared that vid on my other social networks. Zip, zilch, nada.
I've noticed the same thing with other things I've shared. It seems people don't want to be bothered to think about what's really going on in the world.
Disappointing indeed.

Brian, thanks for sharing the video, maybe it just puts people in a thoughtful place and they don't feel vocal.. I don't know, a friend emailed to say that we all have bad news fatigue, well, I hate to say it, but there is a lot more to come unless we all wake up!

i have been been disconnected from the internet and cell phone service for 6 days (somedays a treat, others a pain in the ass) so i am just now catching up on blogs... i will go back and watch the video... but i know what you mean, i have a picture of a 67 Camaro that i used to own posted on flickr... it has been viewed a gazillion times more than any pics of my pottery!
