Pricing, packing and last minute details

I'm loving this little girl, how sweet is that face!
My studio looks like Santa's workshop right now, with last minute details to glue and sand and file, and price. My car is all packed and I am ready to head to Raleigh tomorrow for set up. Very tired!
Surprise, look at me, I made the local newspaper!
Surprise, look at me, I got rejected for the Emerging Artist Grant from the Durham Arts Council. I give up on this fucking thing. I think this is the fourth year I have been turned down and I'm really not sure how long I can be considered "emerging" as an artist!
So just when you start feeling like your shite don't stink, you get a smack down. Probably a good thing, keeps my head on straight!!
and so because I was tired and had an ego up and down kind of day, I had some Reese's Puffs in one of my very favorite bowls. Can you guess who's?
I'm ready for the show, ready to get it over with. I have no earthly idea what to expect. Probably my last post until after Thanksgiving sometime, Wesley comes home tomorrow and then we eat seared animal flesh on Thursday, show starts on Friday. I'll be back!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, have a great time with your families
xoxo

i know whose it is, but I'll let someone else guess ;)

by the way, in regards to your last post: I would never get into a political debate via the blog with people that I didn't respect and consider friends on a certain level. and i certainly would hold no ill will towards someone who thinks differently than I do. all i ask of my friends is that they make informed decisions and can back their shit up. i would hope everyone else feels the same way! i may be in texas but i'm certainly not a republican, in case anyone was thinking that!

by the way again, I f-in love those bowls. it was hard for me to part with them. happy the went to someone who really appreciates them...glad YOU have them.

Brandon, those bowls get used EVERY single day in this house, along with one I have from Hollis. We have lots of bowls but those are the two that come out of the cabinet! It seemed rude to put Reeses puffs in it, but it's sort of fun to put such a tacky cereal in such a great bowl :)
I totally got what you were saying after I went back and read it again. But I have to say, at first I thought you were a republican haha!
My reaction and post was because of the posture of the cop and I probably wrote the post wrong. I didn't intend to get all political, I was just so sad he didn't seem to care that he was spraying kids, and I have one, so it was really a knee jerk reaction!
Anyway, no worries, I always keep my mind open.....
I guess we sort of gave away who made the bowl :)

Grants and shows are all a giant crap shoot as far as I can figure out......the article will probably do as much for you as a grant would....but as I said.....

Hope you sell LOTS OF POTS !!!

Happy Thanksgiving.

Your work is good, you've got a good show to go to and you're in the paper...doesn't sound like an Emerging Artist any more!! You're out there and good!

Thanks! What nice notes to read this morning as I head out to set up this show!!!!!

Congrats on the great feature article! That's awesome. I'm sorry about the "emerging artist" rejection. But, hey, you need to give yourself lots of credit for putting yourself "out" there. So many artists don't - and therefore never suffer the sting of rejection. You GO GIRL! You are a continuing inspiration to me. Watching you and other artists I admire I see that the bottom line is that we just keep making the work and putting it out there. No matter what. Happy Thanksgiving Tracey!

I can't wait to read the article where you write how successful you have become without that freaking grant money. I can see it in your future.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

Hey Patricia and Lori, thanks you so much. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving as well. You both are rocking the clay world too!

i agree with smartcat about grants & shows being a crap shoot. last year jeff applied for piedmont craftsmen and was rejected, this year we applied together for carolina designer craftsmen and were rejected. i think it all depends on who is looking at the images or what type of work they are looking for in any given year.
best of luck with the show on Friday, you have lots of beautiful work to bring!

Michele, you are so right. You just never know what the jurors are looking for and what their personal taste is. I do know that CDC has a lot of potters there with functional pottery, guess they are limited to how many potters they can have in the show without it being a pottery show! No reason you shouldn't be there, you and Jeff make beautiful work!
