For the New Year

I never make new years resolutions, it's a waste of my time, because by February I will have forgotten what they were, and it's a sure bet I'm not doing whatever it was I said I was going to do.
But I do try to set some goals, give the house a good cleaning out, put Christmas away and clear the space for new possibilities. Today is that day. Here are the most amazing heads I got in the mail yesterday, that sounds odd doesn't it!
I seem to have a preoccupation with dismemberment don't I? I'm loving these heads and arms and legs and they are calling to me to get out to the studio and do something with them. Monday morning they will be there with me, no idea what they will become yet...
and the cotton is coming along too. It called to me on the way through SC last week, and if you are a southern girl, you know the beauty of those cotton fields. I keep singing the words to that TV ad, the look, the feel of cotton, the fabric of our lives. But isn't it true?!
I'm in a funk, not a bad one, but there is a fog in my head, like the fog that has settled overnight in a meadow or on top of the mountains, and it is slowly lifting to a bright sunny day.
I had a weird dream last night that each year, one day was taken away, so for example next year we would have 364 days, and on the day that was taken away, everything on the planet shrank a little bit until everything vanished. It was creepy, woke me at 1:00am and I never went back to sleep. So with the fog in my head and the creepy dream, I thought it was appropriate to photograph the body parts that have been given to me by my wonderful artist friends that understand how much joy they would bring to me. I have put them out on my kitchen table where my good friends sat not too long ago with so much energy and talent gathered around, just so they will absorb some of that energy and go out into the world soon....
Have a groovy day!

Love the ones in the first frame. They look like weathered ruins from some ancient temple.I did begin following Merideth's blog at your urging so you did some good with your last post.

I'm usually not big on dolls - but I have to say, there is something very appealing about these. I see the attraction. Great photos! HNY Tracey - it will be fun to see what it brings....your blog is great and I enjoy whatever it is you have to say!

I've been following merideth's blog for a while; it is a good one ;-)

only you can bring the life to these still heads- you know I looked and looked at those dolls as I put things in the drawers they lived in. They looked sad to me. I would pull them out and put them back. I can not tell you how you have brought them to life with your care and love for them. I look at them through entirely different eyes now and know somehow they have been born to be enjoyed again.
You have a talent of taking the everyday, discarded parts of our lives and making them art.
I can not wait to see where you go with these.
And blushing - thanks to you that read me too.
Love to you TB!

I actually have one or two of these intact that were my grandmothers. :)

I also have a friend that makes the craziest earrings out of barbie parts! They sell like hot cakes. Who would of thunk it?

and...

The BEST thing about weird/bad dreams is that that is what they are. Thank goodness too because I can't afford to lose a day!

Very strange, evocative little artifacts....memories of times passes?

That dream sounds like a real anxiety inducer.

If those photos are anything to go by, 2012 is gonna be a great year for you, if a day shorter?!

I kind of like dreams that colour your day differently, just don't keel over or anything.x

i am very attracted to dolls, both old and new but the strange thing is i do not like creepy baby ceramics.
BUT... i have a series of photographs that are of old dolls and Barbies in boxes that appear to have been taken at a flea market. they really odd, jeff thinks they are creepy, i love them.
can't wait to see how your new babies transform!
