March Madness

While I was playing at the beach, Gerry was shooting the Duke Carolina game. Here is a photo he emailed to me. Love it! As much as I loved being there with my friends and my daughter, as soon as I got there I was wishing Gerry was there with us.
This time of year, all he does is shoot basketball and hockey. We have very few nights together from  October through April. We are nearing the end of his eighth season of shooting basketball for the AP, but he has been photographing college basketball since Michael Jordan played in Chapel Hill. That's a lot of basketball games!!
He also emailed this photo while I was away. Probably the best sports pic he has made all year. If you were looking at sports pictures this weekend, you most likely saw this one! Unreal, go Gerry!! I would post it on my blog, like a huge number of folks posted to facebook, but Gerry still doesn't want me posting AP pics here, so go have a see for yourself :)
He is off to photograph Obama in Charlotte today and me and Wesley are going to play Skyrim all day!
March is down time for me, Spring break and Gerry traveling, plus a beach trip, has my mind completely focused on other things, so I will slowly find my way back to the studio. I know those of you that do this full time every day for a living will think me quite the slacker, but I have earned this place. I got on a plane nearly every Monday morning to go somewhere for ten years, raised a child the next 18 years while working, so this is my time to slow down and do things at a calmer pace. My hope is that Gerry can soon find that pace as well. His pace for the past twenty years has been over the top. I am looking forward to a time when he can do what he wants to when he wants to do it. He has certainly earned it!!

What a great picture! Love it!... Ya know, it's OK to take some time off. Gotta have some breathing space to let in new thoughts and ideas. Have fun!

Hey Patricia, it doesn't feel ok to have down time when Gerry is working so hard right now, but I know it is. I was just talking to Wesley about how much energy it takes to be an artist, mentally, all the peaks and valleys. You have to have some down time to keep your mind from exploding! and yes, I do feel new ideas moving in......

Enjoy the down time, it's an important part of your work. I know that sounds funny but it's true.
Great pictures, you all are so talented.

Looks like he's working on another planet. Love that shot used by the Post. Hey, nothing wrong with the beach, my friend.
