Easter break

Lord, Mama!!! WHY!?!  This was Easter Sunday, 1964 and I was not a happy child. This photo was probably made before Sunday school so that would mean that I had to get up around 8am, eat breakfast, put these itchy clothes on, go outside with the parents and the camera, then go to church and sit there until noon. No wonder I don't go to church anymore, much to my mom's dismay, but how could she blame me after the trauma she put this poor little girl through!
This is not the girl my mama thought she was raising! Much better on a Sunday morning to be wearing Wesley's Invader Zim pajamas and my favorite denim jacket!! I'll celebrate Sunday my own way thank you.
Hope everyone has a peaceful and happy Easter. I think this is a sad holiday, everyone carrying on about the Easter bunny and the marketing maniacs selling us colored eggs and more candy, when in fact is marks the tragic crucifixion of a kind and gentle man. Oh sorry, didn't mean to bum everyone out, but seriously, this holiday candy thing is getting out of hand, but.... yes I did buy some chocolates and I made an Easter bunny treat for Wesley..... you have to do these things when you are a mom, it's the rule!
peace ya'll

Did that dress have a poofy nylon net thing attached to it to make it full? I hated those! My mother made me wear dresses like that on Easter too. And stiff patent leather shoes that hurt. I still don't like dressing up.

Happy Easter, Tracey. What a cute girl. We're with Dee's folks, one sister and a pregnant niece this weekend, celebrating Doug's 88th birthday.

Hey Sherry thanks, I think we need to remind the retailers of that celebration, they seem to forget what our holidays are really all about!

Hey, Tracey, our moms shopped at the same store! I have pictures of myself that just about match yours. Though I think you may be missing your little Easter bonnet. :)

Hey Patricia! That band thing around my head was my bonnet that year, but yeah, I always had a hat at Easter too:). I still remember the band thing, it was green velvet and had white silk dogwood blooms attached. I must have looked like a fool!

My mother and grandmother tortured me in similar fashion, I understand your adult choices in clothes. Far more comfortable and far more you. Have a great weekend.

oh yeah, the hat, gloves, little purse... staples of the early 60's church-goers. my mom made all of our fancy dresses... i always complained the necks were too tight and i was choking. thankfully she started altering the patterns to make the neck opening bigger for me!
... my own daughter LOVED to wear dresses and fancy clothes everyday. she still does, which is good since she has to dress for work.
(great pj's btw!)

Lori, so glad we finally get to make adult choices with our clothing! Michele, I know! The NECKS! what was up with that? Every dress I had made me feel like I was going to choke!

Oh Tracey. I can relate to everything about this post...I too am wearied by the ridiculousness of it all, and yet the Easter Bunny Spirit (!?) will still be visiting our house with very low-candy gift baskets for Horus and Treva.

I do try to stay away from time-wasting internet silliness, but I really can't resist sharing the following (Lee's fault)--if you do decide to go here, check out page 2 as well. It gets funnier as you go on.

Hi Yolande!
My mom never did the Easter bunny thing because of Jesus and all, so I was overboard with it when Wes was little. It's so much fun to do the baskets, and I am a sucker for any excuse to have a party! I sent Wes a little Easter package this year, first year she won't be home for Easter, enjoy it while you can!! But the marketing is still crazy for the holiday candy thing!

Easter is the only day I can stand pastels - and made a lemon lemon yellow egg shaped cake. sigh... but I agree it is a sad "holiday" and many holidays are really more about observing something good or bad (define holiday as "day off" and it becomes understandable) in those terms. PEACE
