Church in Seagrove

One of the best things about being Wesley's mom is that she tolerates my obsession with churches and cemeteries and willingly stops with me every time I see one. Friday when we were leaving Seagrove we passed by Fair Grove Methodist Church and I had to stop. As we got out of the car another car pulled in the drive and this nice southern man called out "hey lady, if you want to go in, the door is open. We are having service here next Sunday and there will be dinner on the grounds. You are welcome to come, we would love to have you." Now THIS is what I love about the south. Where else are you going to have an encounter like that on a Friday afternoon?!
I'm sure that those of you that live in Seagrove know this church. It is a beautiful old country church on the way to Whynot Pottery and I am usually on my way to visit Meredith and never  have time to stop. So glad I had the time on Friday and so glad Wes was with me. We are thinking that we might just take the nice folks of Fair Grove up on the offer and show up next Sunday for their service.
I hope all of you have a great Mother's Day. I am lucky to have Wesley home and today we spent the day with Gerry's mom and dad, brother and sister, brother and sister in law, had a nice lunch and lots of laughs and good conversation. For Mother's Day I have asked to go see Tim Burton's new movie Dark Shadows and then dinner after. Dinner and a movie, what could be better! Did any of you watch Dark Shadows when it was on TV? It used to terrify me, but all my friends loved it, so I would suck it up and pretend I loved it too. Even the intro music scared me. What a whimp I was! But I think I can handle it now and Tim Burton makes great movies. Hope all of you get to do something fun with your families too. XOXO

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!

We Love this church and I am drawn to it myself. I don't just go and sit in it as much as i use to.
It was associated with the Why Not Academy, a private boarding school that was across the road.
My grandfather and all his brother's and sister's went to school there. He was one of 12 or 13...the last class of the school was when my grandfather was 14- I have pictures. After that he finished High School in Robins- walking a hitching a ride there on Sunday nights and coming back on Fridays to work the family farm. He lived with relatives in Robbins during the week. Our daughter married there. The cost of renting the church for the ceremony was 50.00, because they had to turn on the electricity.
It is kept up today by the Why Not Association along with the cemetery across the road. In the cemetery you will find my Slack relatives including the grand parents and baby Lunda Slack who Lee was named for. Go and enjoy wish I could be with you. M

Beautiful church! I remember "dinner on the grounds" from childhood. What a great opportunity--hope you go, take pics, and post about it.

Happy Mother's Day, Tracey. And I, too, love photographing the empty interiors of churches.

it is a beautiful church, and i have never been inside so thanks for sharing your pics!
Dark Shadows is on my list of movies to see... I loved the show but had a friend whose mother wouldn't allow her to watch it... because it was evil!
Tim Burton is the perfect person to resurrect it.

Michele, my mom thought it was evil too, so I went over to my friend Janet's to watch it. Wesley and I are planning to go to the service Sunday, you should come over!
