Lundy Jane

Yesterday, Meredith left a note on my blog saying this piece reminded her of her grandfather's sister who died when she was five days old. Her name was Lundy Jane. Well, isn't that just the most perfect southern name EVER?!
I have been trying to come up with a name for this piece, and there you have it, Lundy Jane.
It is so hard trying to come up with names for pieces for gallery shows, some just come naturally but sometimes I get stuck and then just call it house #1 or something equally not creative.  Thanks to you bloggers for all the inspiration you send my way!

Here is another glass door knob that Susan Meyers gave me. I love the drawer pull on this one and the crocus martis terra sigilata is beautiful. The photo doesn't show it that well, but there is so much depth to this finish, this is one of my favorites. What shall we name it?!

That is a perfect southern name, and a very nice tribute.
My guess is that a lot of us have difficulty naming a piece. Mine get really exotic names like 4qt ash glazed casserole with lid...yawn. Maybe I should name them after something one would cook in them like Baked Ziti casserole...now you got me thinking.

I heard of someone creating a bunch of work and then inviting folks over for a naming party! But how 'bout that Lundy Jane! What a great name!

Thanks Tracey! It is a great name! You are on a good roll with your work.
Lunda Lee is in house and one day will go and stay at the whynot Cemetery- it has been a bittersweet day.

Tracey...Your work just keeps getting more delicious.
Since you have a doorknob with a crystal on the roof...
How does "Rap Gently" sound...or something along that line.

Lori, I think giving people ideas for what to put in their pottery with a name is great, why do people always ask "what do you use this for"?
Laura it does seem like a crown doesnt it?
Susan any excuse for a party, right?!
Hey Meredith, thanks!
Michele, I don't know why I feel the need to name these things, I didn't when I first started making them, but they seem to want names now...
Gail, I like it! Thanks:)

Are those pearls you added to the top of the doorway for Lundy Jane? I like them~ they give a halo-ish effect for her...very sweet.

I like that you are naming your pieces- it adds to the story of them...however, I also suck at naming things and usually rely on my husband for inspiration for naming new glazes!!

I'll check with him and let you know if he has a good idea for this piece :)

Yep, they are fresh water pearls from an old necklace I bought years ago and never wore....

I'm the husband that King's Creek Pottery mentioned.....I'd call it "Opening Up."

I thought of "What's inside" or "Welcome" or "the Opening" I am loving these... they make me think. About my life and about others life. Like little historical sculptures.
