Lark and Key opening

Hi there! Gerry and I are home from a very brief but very fun trip to Charlotte for the Storytellers opening and our 27th anniversary celebration. We had a great time, saw lots of friends, ate good food, drank a tiny bit too much and enjoyed being back in the metropolis of Charlotte. What a great city, I sort of miss it, but then again, I live in Chapel Hill!
The gallery was so beautiful, Sandy and Duy (yee) and Jane did such an amazing job hanging the show and the other artists I was featured with, Elizabeth Foster and Vicki Sawyer are beyond incredible. I am so honored to be in a show with these two artists and very humbled by the whole experience. Elizabeth was also there and we became fast friends, she is really really talented! I had so much fun talking to her.

This is the hardest working gallery couple in NC as far as I'm concerned. They take care of their artists!! and look how cute they are!!!!!!  So sweet :)

It was so good to see some people I knew. Ron Philbeck and his very beautiful and sweet wife Sarah came by and Terry Shipley, from Clayworks, who I haven't seen in several years, and our best mate Corky's brother Tim and his wife Darlene stopped by. I haven't seen them since before Wesley was born, it was so awesome to have them come by and see us, and they brought their son and his wife. The last time I saw their son he was crawling and now he is around 6'3" and a very handsome man and father.

and of course Gerry was there offering the best moral support and keeping me company and taking most of the photos. I tried to get a shot of him, but he isn't still very much and I have a bunch of blurry ones of him! Here we are leaving the hotel, I was able to snap a very quick pic. Thank yo so much to everyone that came out to the gallery last night. I thought there was a great crowd and it seemed steady all evening. I had some stiff competition with the paintings, I would have purchased all of them if I could, and several of them had red dots at the end of the evening, but I don't mind at all, I am very happy for those artists. My work held it's own very nicely, I had a red dot on a piece too, and my work was complimented so beautifully by their paintings.
This morning we got coffee and sat by the rooftop pool before driving home. I can't thank Sandy and Duy and Jane enough for the welcome they have given me and my work. I had lots and lots of compliments, a piece sold, I hope more sell, but if not, the exposure is fantastic and I am just so very happy to be in this incredible gallery. Just think, in 2003 I started taking my first wheel throwing class at Clayworks in Charlotte, just blocks away from this gallery, and now I have work in this beautiful space. It took me three years to learn to center a 3 lb. ball of clay, and then I took a hand building class with Barbara McKenzie. The hand building was much more natural to me and a better fit, and look where it has taken me! I have worked almost every day with clay since 2003 and my hard work is paying off, I now have a body of work that I am very proud of and the pieces are finding their way to collectors. Who knows where this journey will be in ten more years!!!
Right now my journey is leading to Maine. We have the house sitter lined up, the car packed, and off we go in the morning. I'll talk to you guys in a couple of weeks!!!
Gerry shot some crazy photos on the roof, I'll save them for a day when I can't find anything to blog about :)
Thanks everyone for your amazing support!!!!!!!

Loved the way the painting of the deer and bird went with your houses. Should be sold together.

Melissa, the merchandising of this show was so perfect. Sandy has a background in visual display and it shows. She did a wonderful job! I think there was a painting bought to go with one of the houses that sold, such a great way to shop!
