NC Landscape Show winners!!

 Hi Everyone!

We are back from Maine and I have lots of fun things to tell you. We had a great time and Maine is amazing. I have to get my photos sorted out and then I will share with you some of the unorthodox things the Broomes do on vacation. I have some pretty funny photos, however, you may think the men with the white jackets need to come get us after you see some of them :)

Until then, I couldn't wait to share this with you, because you are all my cheerleaders and you lift me up when I'm feeling blue, and all that...... oh, and I MISSED all of you!!!!

While in Maine, I was reading Andrew Wyeth, A Secret Life. (Great book, by the way, especially if you are in Maine, or a Wyeth fan as I am).We also went to the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland to see his watercolors that were in a new exhibit. Lots of stories from that visit, for another time. Anyway, I also took watercolors with me and sat on the beach several days painting. It only takes swiping the brush across the page once to realize the brilliance of Andrew Wyeth. Anyway, my point is, I was realizing the level of  achievement this man reached with his work and it made me think about my own tiny little place in the "art world" and one could have a great big pity party if one chose    to. But I was in beautiful Maine having a big old time eating  lobster, so who gives a shit about their place in the art world at those moments, right? But I did have two 10 hour days of riding in a car to think about my work and where I fit in and wondering how someone gets to such great heights of success and I know that is a mighty steep hill to climb. So few get to the top of that hill.
However, I walked in the door this afternoon and on the table stacked with mail was a check from Lark and Key and a check from the Visual Art Exchange. What was this VAE check for? The show just opened.... hmmmmm..... so I opened it to find PRIZE MONEY!!!! YAY!!!!  What a fun thing, to walk in the door from 10 days in glorious Maine and get checks for my sculptures.

The piece in the first photo won third place in the NC Landscape Show, and the second photo won the VAE prize, and I don't even know what that is. I have to go over to Raleigh this week and check out the show. Did anyone go by and see it? I have no idea if the pieces have sold, but they won prizes, I'll take that, ha!

stay tuned, lots of photos, lots of tales to tale, I'll try not to bore you!!!!!
So glad to be back!!!

congratulation! that is great news.
...Rockland, ME... oh boy have I spent lots of time there. my ex grew up in Thomaston, ME and lots of his family is still there. The Farnsworth is a nice little treasure
I am not sure if I have the old saying right but I think it's Camden by the Sea, Rockland by the smell! There used to be so many fish canneries there that somedays it smelled pretty rank in downtown Rockland.
Can't wait to read about your Maine adventure.

Hi Michele, thought about you while we were in Maine. I did check out the island you told us about, but so much to do, so little time. We will definitely do some island exploring next time! Gerry is ready to pack up the house and move up there!!! We liked Thomaston a lot, Camden was a little touristy for us though. The Farnsworth is absolutely a treasure!

Congratulations, Trace. We knew you were a prizewinner all along, of course. Welcome home. You left some lobster for us, didn't you?

We gorged on lobster, Hollis but there is plenty more, I'm sure! Sorry to have missed you this time but we went home a different way to avoid 95.

Welcome home and congratulations. I love getting money in the mail, it must have felt even better to you knowing some of it was prize money.
I have vacationed in Maine twice and loved it. I'm really looking forward to your pictures and maybe another video set to Wesley's music?
