I thought you were talking about the extreme heat we've been having.

When I hear geologists talking about fracking, and I know a couple of these guys personally, they always frame it as being perfectly safe "as long as everything is done right". Which is just not so reassuring is it?

It's not safe, it's not right, it's just downright frightening!

Hi Tracey, thank you for putting the information about fracking on your site. I have been following the other video links on the subject that come up after the song has finished. The ones of people lighting the gas that comes out with the water are sobering to say the least. I was really interested by one video that was from one of the gas companies explaining the process (complete with calming lift musack playing in the background). The use of concrete to protect the bores that they drill would be of little use in my own country where the ground heaves with earthquakes. Such things would snap a concrete covering like that like a straw! Sadly fracking has been going on in New Zealand, and there is increasing pressure to extract gas from the vast deposits of low quality coal that are to be found in the lower part of the South Island, a little to the South of us. I find the frackers avoidance of ever naming the chemicals that they add to the water and sand that are pumped down the wells most revealing also. It is the stuff of a B grade disaster movie... trouble is that this is real life. Keep up the fight, I'll add some links to my site soon and hope that some of the people in my part of the world get to follow them. Hugs, P

Peter you are so right. The fracking is just going to cause more earthquakes. My daughter isn't going to have a planet suitable to live on!!!

that's a great video. it really explains the issue in simple, understandable terms.
very scary.
the fracking issue today brings back memories for me of all the nuclear power protests of the 70's.
they told us that was safe too and look at the major disasters we have been through since then.

:-(

I know Michele, it seems our government folks sleep through history class :)

It's astonishing that anyone is just letting gas drillers get away with fracking. Take a look at the film "Gasland."

Tracey Broome said...

Hey Hollis, I saw Gasland last year, that's what started my ranting!! I just don't understand the stupidity of this countries leaders AT ALL!!!!!

Lori Buff said...

I believe our leaders are more interested in keeping the gas companies happy than taking care of our country. Makes you wonder doesn't it?
I read Michele's comment and thought, they are still selling us that lie about nuclear energy being safe, even after what happened in Japan! Too bad this country can't generate power with wind, sun or water...oh, yeah, we can. So what the frack?

This is yet another reason why I am glad to live in a mineral poor area. You would think we would learn after all the disaster that have happened. Yet we go merrily on our way ignoring all the signs of bad things happening.
I am so naive I thought fracking was only what we do to wells to get more water into them.
For a totally different kind of water fire Google Providence Water Fire.
