The Wheels are Slowly Turning

Since the weather refuses to quit sending us these 100 degree days, I'm trying to find things to do that are related to my work without having to deal with the heat in my studio. I have been filling out contracts for shows I have been invited to, sending in booth fees, researching new glazes, sorting out files...busy work and also shopping for more found objects to go with my sculptures. Yesterday I had some great luck. I got this box of wheels and gears and metal bits for $5!! What a find. I see houses with wheels in the future......

I also found some more glass door knobs, which are getting hard to find and getting more expensive. The Prince Albert tobacco tins are charming, no idea what I will do with them yet, but I got them for $1 a piece, hard to pass up. The little Frozen Charlottes were also a great find. These are getting more and more expensive. I saw one the other day for $80!! These were a bargain at $4 a piece. I have to take the  cost of these found objects into consideration when pricing my work, so it's nice when I find great prices like this.
I have lots of new ideas for work, so I'm ready to get back in the studio. Wes and I are going to visit my mom at the beach next week, then she is heading back to school and I will be wrapping up my extended summer vacation. Soooon.........

You have some great treasures there, I'm excited to see how you use them.

Maybe you need to start working the night shift when it's cooler.

You know, Lori, I tried the night shift, but I have to leave the windows open and the lights attract every bug in the yard. It's just not in the cards for me to work in the summer :) maybe I've paid my dues since I had a summer job every year from the age 13 through college!

love those gears and wheels... they would make some great textures in clay.
and the heat has been tough to work in, we have been taking long lunches in the house with a/c and working into the night. Dealing with the bugs isn't fun either!

I love the idea of your houses on wheels! Makes me think of the Tiny House movement....and gypsies. :)

The beach will be good for you, Tracey. It always is for us. Love the wheels, particularly.

I know the wheels were a great find, last year the ones I made on carts were wheels made of clay. This is sooo much better!

i can't imagine your heat . . . or why you would try to move until it stops! glass doorknobs are so swell, and houses on wheels- yes, caravans, & taking your home on the road for adventures....

I think you have the right idea regarding wheels. The house I made was originally supposed to have wheels; then I decided a cart would be easier...HAH!

Love those little dolls. I thin if you explain the origins of your findings people will understand your pricing.

You made a good haul!

I really like the photos. Your photos make the posts so pretty. All those sorting, sifting, preparing activities are part of this whole shebang. Good for you for making a path when the other one is closed off.
