Still summer vacation

There has been no work coming out of my studio since my show opened at Lark and Key June 1. Trip to Maine, daughter home from college, chunk of meat cut out of my back and the obligatory visits to the grandparents. Summer is almost gone and I haven't hit a lick.... and I don't care. Except for the past three weeks of pain and discomfort, it has been a great summer with my family. Wes and I got home today from visiting at my mom's house at the beach. Drank lots of coffee and sweet tea from the mug I gave her for Christmas. I have decided that the potters at Whynot Pottery know how to craft one of the finest mugs I have ever taken a drink from. Perfect rim, perfect and even thickness from top to bottom, perfect handle. This was my mug every day and I am so glad I bought them for my mom so I had something decent to drink from at her house instead of Mikasa or Lennox or the other random china patterns she has.
Here is my mom with more of her bling. She cracks me up! Check out the toenails on her size 41/2 foot, her husband polishes them for her :)  My mom eats the worst food, has never exercised a day in her life, and her idea of fun is going to Belk Department Store to buy some new shoes. But she is 81 years old, still driving her car, gets up and puts on a cute outfit and her jewelry every day, cooks three meals a day and stays on the go all the time. I figure since I have her genes, if I eat good food, exercise and take good care of myself, I should live past 100! She wouldn't let me photograph her face because she hadn't been to the "beauty shop" yet to get her hair "fixed".
It was nice to sit by the pool for three days and read, have my mom cooking for me, taking walks on the beach with Wes and being lazy for a little while longer. On the way down we stopped at a produce stand out in the middle of nowhere and picked up some tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, butter beans, pear preserves, and apples and ate very well for three days. Thank God for our farmers and moms!
I have two more weeks with Wesley home, then we take her back to college and I get back to work.
Might as well enjoy the last of the summer and worry about clay later......

That is a really beautiful mug, it's always much nicer to drink from something hand made.
