My kiln was happy this week and everything came out so beautifully. Nothing ripped apart or cracked or did whatever those things usually like to do when they are intended for someone or for a show. I have some really nice pieces and they all have places to go! There were two commissions in this firing. This first barn is called Chapel Hill and it is for a lady in Charlotte that already bought a couple of pieces at Lark and Key and asked for this barn except with a blue roof. Lark and Key has one like this, but it has a red roof. I love this blue roof, need to make some more of these for Festifall so everyone in Chapel Hill can have one!
This piece is for Allison. She bought the little cello player from me a couple of months ago and commissioned this piece for her grandfather's pocket watch. His name is stamped on the back and the little hook came from a box of gears and parts I found at an antique shop. The tack on the hook is from a box of upholstery nails that belonged to my dad. The finial is from Cindy Shake, my Alaska blogger pal. Lots of special pieces added to this barn. That's what I love about making these for people. If I could just do commissions I would be so happy! Allison has the watch with her, this is mine, just wanted to see how it would look. I love this piece.
I'll post some more pictures over the weekend. I also have some really nice test tiles of some washes I tried. Today, I'm mixing up some new raku glazes to try out. Lots to do, must go get busy! Happy weekend!!!

These are really very moving. Isn't it great to make something for someone that shares emotions. I love the nest and the ladder. It looks inviting. They are going to be happy customers.
