We Have Water!

This was my day yesterday. On top of everything else, I have developed a nice chest cold. Well, of course I did! I carried my new little tea pot around everywhere with ginger, honey and lemon. The sweetest child in the world (my daughter) made me tomato soup and I was a sloth. I treated myself to a very pretty cloth from Avalanche Looms and it came in the mail yesterday. It was described in her Etsy shop as a solstice cloth for bathing, but yesterday it was a lovely tea towel for my lunch. So beautiful and cheered me up nicely between coughing and nose blowing.
Finally the nicest well dude ever showed up around lunch time yesterday and gave us a new pump for our well. What a luxury to lift the faucet and have water pour out, instead of going to the porch and getting a jug of water to boil. We are spoiled, people! On the news last night they did another propaganda feature on how the oil business is booming in Colorado and fracking is the greatest. Yeah right! Just wait until none of us have clean drinking water and see how great fracking is then! Do you know how much water is wasted in this horrid injection process? Here is a quick fact: The water used in the fracking process could serve up to 300,000 homes in Colorado for ONE YEAR. In one week we alone went through 40 one gallon jugs of drinking water and 7 five gallon buckets for flushing the toilet, and we were being conservative. Imagine how much water waste there is in fracking. We DO NOT have an endless supply of water on this planet, yet we are going to inject it in the ground with toxic chemicals. For what? So we can avoid solar and wind energy research? and be the richest oil nation in the world. We all better wake up! What makes me so sick about this is there are people on this planet that don't even have water to drink yet we are just mindlessly injecting millions of gallons of precious water into the ground with toxic chemicals. I just want to shake the brains out of the people that are doing this!!!!!!!
OK, sorry for the little rant. Another day of tea and slothery. I have decided that for once I will let my body get better before I plunge it into activity. Gerry and Wesley are off to have breakfast together, and I am here with my tea and orange pound cake. Yum!
peace and water for all :)

Tea and honey are good. Maybe a little bourbon later on.

Or sooner :) good idea

You can't shake the brains out of the people that are fracking, they lack the prerequisite.
Glad you're water is back.

Hurray for water!!!

Yay for dudes with water pumps!! And tea with cake! Sounds like a recipe for everythings-getting-better!

Great point Lori, what was I thinking, ha!
Yes Anna, hurray for water, may all those trackers out there go without water sometime, they will see how important it truly is!

feel better soon! xo

Congrats, Tracey. And shake the cold.
The fracking thing is incomprehensible ...

Hey Susan, yes tea and cake makes everything easier, haha!
Thanks Laura, same to you and Bob!
Hey there Hollis, yes it is unbelievable that people are allowing this process, I have no idea what can be done to stop it, but we all better figure it out!!

I hate to think what it's going to take to make this money driven world remember Mother Earth and her relationship with humanity. Hope you feel better soon Tracey.

Jody, you are sooo right, I have a soapbox that I get on at home every day about this!

You just don't realize how much water you use (and waste) until you don't have it running out of your faucet.
Glad your water is back, sorry that you are now sick :-(
Rest up and get well for 2013!

Thanks Michele! Yeah being without water for a week really opened up my eyes to how valuable and how taken for granted it really is.

On the theory that crap comes in cluster...of course you got a cold now! Hope you are feeling better soon.

You must be so happy to have water again. Good that you have a cool pump guy! In country life they're as important as a good car guy.

I hope you you stick to your own advice and stay slow until you feel better.

England has just caught up with the rest of the World.
We are going to start 'fracking'.
We have been told "it's all good" and will bring our rising gas prices down.
It make you want to cry that people can't see through this 'bullshit'?
Still all they have to do is just stick those fuel prices higher and higher and everyone will be crying "please frack here now".
Coming from an island that was just made for wind farms it all seems a little sad.

That aside, I loved those jars that you let us see at Christmas. Who made the footed one with the cascading glaze?

Tracey Broome said...

Suzi, it does seem to come in waves doesn't it? My favorite guy is our HVAC guy, the best!
Hi John, too bad those of us with good sense can't make the decisions. The jar with the glaze was by Mackenzie Smith, I keep kosher salt in it for cooking and use it all day every day, it's a beauty. The one beside it is Brandon Phillips, also a beautiful jar.

Sounds like you're doing the right thing , take it easy trace and stay warm. So fracking is the new swear word, it does peeve me when peeps with money just suck the planet, there's a sizeable property across the road from me that sunk one of the last bores permitted in our area for water...I just wonder what is going to happen when all the underground water is sucked out!

There will be no water and we will vanish, just like the dinosaurs and the Mayans.......

fracking...don't get me started either.
water- yeah, water! how true; in about two weeks, I'll travel with my father to his homeland (Bolivia) for a visit where if we drink the water, we'll both get sick. we are so spoiled here in the U.S.
thanks for the reality check in that.

Your lovely new teapot and bowl look so nice together with your wonderful solstice cloth.

I hope you are feeling better by now :)

As Hollis says, fracking is incomprehensible... and horrifying. I can't begin to fathom the thought processes behind such decisions. Such short term "gains", such long term pain - for everyone, even the decision makers children and their children!

Wonder what it would take to get a mechanical pump, preferably inside at the sink for back-up?
We don't have a well, but when the electric goes out long enough for water to become an issue I start thinking about how I would like to be less reliant.
Hope you feel better soon.

During a discussion about what modern convenience we would find the hardest to live without, after people from various generations mentioned washing machines and dishwashers and refrigerators and cars and computers and televisions, my 96 year old grandmother said "running water; none of you have ever been without it but when I was a little girl we had to bring water into the house from the well in a bucket. Trust me; it's running water."
