The disaster kiln firing kind of bummed me out this week. Me and clay are having a big old fight right now, but I did manage to get along with my loom and make some very pretty mats to compliment the pottery I have that other potters can get to survive in their kilns!
I didn't think I was getting much accomplished, but as I shot some photos this morning I realized I got quite a bit done. I'll show you some rusty fabrics tomorrow. I'm really excited about the possibilities of dyeing my own fabrics for weaving.
The denim mats are so pretty with the shinos and the wood fired pieces I have. It's also nice to be making some things for myself, not worrying about customers and pricing and selling. Just making, learning, getting along with something....
I found the most hideous orange, red and pink skirt at the thrift store this week for $1. I felt like the colors might make a nice rag piece. I was right. I ripped it up and it became a beautiful thing.
This is a little Cole Pottery pitcher that my grandmother bought in Seagrove years and years ago. Amazing that it is still surviving....
This one's for you Anna, my fellow potter/weaver, this is my morning chocolate soy milk cup :)

those are great! i really like the denim... and the bright orange for that matter (makes me think SUMMER!). next thing you know you will be selling this at shows ;-)
Lovely.
that bright one is really fabulous in so many ways. from one life to another. Just enjoy what you are doing. No worries mate.
wow! so great.
You are a weaving machine! The mats are great and your edges are fantastic! You are a natural. :)
You go girl! There's something to be said for the fun of starting a new learning curve ant having to worry about money, quantities etc. The blues are so calming and set off your pots, but I'm smitten with the pink.....warm weather can't come soon enough!
Thanks ya'll, they were fun, more to come!
wow, beautiful pics and weaving! Who made the plate in the first pic? looks a bit like Michael Kline's....
Yep, it's Miceal's, bowl, Hollis Engley, cup Anna Branner.
I hope you and clay can learn to get along again but it seems like the weaving is bringing you joy. You're making some beautiful weavings.
Thanks Lori! Clay will always be there, just taking a rest....
sweet!!! trace you're shredding it!
Hey Ang, I'm trying!
oh, and the cathartic RIPPING required for weaving rag pieces! that's a huge bonus. You start with destruction, then proceed to creation. NIce work.
Yes, Shannon, and since I am soooo good at destruction, ripping things up suits me just fine!
YES!
