Weekend weaving

I know some of you are still battling the snow, but here in the south we had a springtime weekend and I managed to get my studio cleaned up. Gerry and I also put up some fencing and turned the soil for a garden space. We finally surrendered to the deer and got fencing. They eat everything we plant, but maybe this year we will be able to grow a few vegetables. We don't have a lot of sunny spots but there is one tiny space on the side of the house so we are going to give it a go.

I also continue my new infatuation with dyeing fabric. The linen came out rust and lavender and seems to match wood fired pottery quite nicely. I got a tiny bit of weaving done in the evenings, but with Wesley here and the weather nice outside, it's hard to stay in and weave.

She headed back to school today, so I will probably be able to finish up this warp.

This piece is all dyed strips from thrift store linen shirts and sheets, dyed with rusty iron, eucalyptus, and tumeric. Not bad is it?
I'm thinking of adding some of these old pearls and buttons somewhere. They seem to want to be together.
Morning juice with my new table runner and my favorite little pitcher from Paul Jessop over in England. Paul, I still love this pitcher and use it all the time!
Looks to be a mixed weather week, so I'll have some studio time and some weaving time. This seems to be working out so far. Happy week everyone!

It blows me out of the water that you would think to use the items that you found to dye with. Goodness TB is there no end to the way your mind travels? I love the softness of the colors that you are getting. Nice.

Hey Melissa, yeah these colors are really good, not something I would actually pick out for myself, but they are nice to be with and sort of a happy accident.
Ahhh, Meredith, the places my mind goes, haha, it's a strange place in there:) I have been doing lots of reading of fiber artist blogs, they share so much wisdom and I found a grat old book at the thrift store about using nature to dye with, really old school but very interesting...

My dogs have started a new habit of eating dishtowels whenever they are left alone for more time than they prefer. They don't totally destroy they, they just eat a small corner. Last night I was thinking that you'd just tear it up and weave with it. :-)

no wonder you like weaving-- yours is beautiful! amazing how something old can become new for someone else. my problem here is the squirrels, devouring birdseed. had to get suet with hot pepper.

Wow Tracey, your weaving is beautiful! Been away a week since I stopped by. Must ask....... Does the weaving come a bit more naturally than clay.... Or at least glazing? Have to say I am very relaxed one I get into the rhythm of weaving. Nice end to a day in the clay studio....

Hi Tracey, Nice to see the small jug at the end, glad you love it & use it. I'm loving the weaving, it works so well with the pots. must be nice to switch to a different medium when you feel like it.
