Teddy Grahams in a sake cup!

On My Porch Today.......

I have been so diligent with my portion control for the past four weeks, since that was my biggest issue with food. I have a huge appetite, love food and I can eat A LOT! The one thing I really like about Weight Watchers is the encouragement to measure out your portions. It WORKS! I have been using my collection of sake cups/shot glasses to measure out portions, I have these little cups sitting around with the correct portion, then I can just grab a few when I pass by. When the cup is empty, I'm done snacking. Left and back tray: Barbara McKenzie, Right: Whynot Pottery

My snack allotment in the afternoon when I have a sweet or salty snack attack is usually 24 almonds, or 12 tortilla chips or my found again love for Teddy Grahams, I can have 24 of them, and that is a plenty. I used to pack these in Wesley's lunch box, haven't had them in years and then I saw them the other day at the store while trying to come up with some healthy (sort of) snack alternatives to carrot and cucumber. I'm still doing the veggies, but a girl's gotta have something sweet or salty every now and then! Teddy Grahams and a new sippy cup, reverting to childhood here :~)

It's much more fun to eat my Teddy Grahams from a Barbara McKenzie shino sake cup.
Sorry, Barbara, you must be rolling your eyes about now, ha!

Summer reading............. the words in this book......... sigh................

Gerry is not the only photographer in your family. I always love your pictures.

I second Dennis on that. Your photos are beautiful - homespun, rustic, heart n soul and make me want to visit your place!
That first photo...ohhh.

And, I forgot to comment on the sweet little deer in your last post.
I exclaimed like an excited child when I saw the pics! I've never seen a real deer in the wild (only on TV), let alone fawns. How exciting! Even if they do nibble at your plants - the roos do the same in country areas over here - they can do alot of damage actually, but they're still lovely to see naturally.

Love the biccies in your lovely shino cup, I think they'd taste better too ;)
They're called Tiny Teddies over here.

Ha! Vicki, you haven't seen a deer, I haven't seen a Roo!
I like tiny teddies better than teddy grahams. I might start calling them that!

"Out of Africa" is one of my most favorite books - the writing is poetry prose, surely. She has you with those famous opening lines. "I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong hills." What an amazing life! You might like to check out her "Shadows on the Grass" and Judith Thurman's biography "Isak Dinesen - The Life of a Storyteller." Great stuff!

tracey- I laughed when I read this! i love teddy grahams and you are so right about the portions of food. And, books- I've just begun Khaled Hosseini's new one- 'and the mountains echoed' and had to put it down on page 12. otherwise, I'd lose sleep tonight!

my favorite weight watcher snack... little cheese flavored pretzels. Can't tell you how many times I counted those out into a little cup or bowl!

I like the use of the little cups. I have some test bowls here that work the same way.I need to put them to use.
I loved the second breakfast story.
Keep it up, you are on a good path.
Teddies......

You have quite a collection of little cups. They are so much better than the little zip lock bags I've been using. Eating from a pretty little bowl or plate makes the food what you eat a part of your life, rather than what you eat to diet.

Second breakfast Yes!

Mary, I know! That opening line hooks you right from the start! I have had this book forever and kept forgetting it, great summer reading!
Amy, isn't a book with beautiful imagery just the best thing ever?! The mountains do echo don't they?
Michele, ooohhhh cheese flavored pretzels, great idea!
Meredith, yes, I'm am feeling good about this path right now, get out those cups!
Suzi, I was using the ziplock bags but figured it was a big waste and looked for a better alternative. More fun to carry around pottery than plastic!

Better that the cup be used for teddy grahams than not used at all.
