Tibetan Cultural Pageant



This year the monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery return to The ArtsCenter to present their Tibetan Cultural Pageant.
Performance begins at 7:00pm this Wednesday February 5

The pageant will include the Yak Dance, the Snow Lion Dance, the Good Luck Dance, and Chanting prayers as well as a demonstration of debate. Drepung Gomang Tour members are refugee monks now living at the monastery. The Drepung Gomang Monastery was founded in 1416 near Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. Gomang College is the oldest of the four colleges of Drepung and has produced many Buddhist masters and has been an important Tibetan Buddhist learning center. The focus of Gomang is philosophy; logic and debate. Merchandise created by members of the refugee Tibetan community living in India lama camps, will be available for sale. Performance begins at 7 p.m. All proceeds from merchandise and ticket sales go directly to the Drepung Gomang.

Directions from I-40:
Drive to 15-501 in Chapel Hill and continue on to Franklin Street which turns into East Main Street in Carrboro.
