More change coming

While Gerry has been chasing news stories in South Carolina all week, I have been signing papers and meeting with realtors and now our house is for sale.

We don't ever seem to do anything the easy or normal way. Gerry is taking serious risks covering the floods in SC and I am selling our house. What great timing!
Docu-sign is a marvel, he has signed all the contracts electronically while floating around on flood rivers...

He told me some stories of places he went and people he got in boats with on flooded rivers...... and it was worrisome. Glad he is heading home tonight!

I've been looking through old photos on my hard drive for some nice photos of how my studio looked before I started filling it with boxes and boxes and boxes. It was such a soothing place to work and now it stresses me out just to walk by it. I came across this one. Wesley and Tyler having lunch on the foundation before the walls went up. What a very special day that was..... now neither are here with me.

In fact, no one has been here for days. Its been pretty lonely around here, but I have had a lot of last minute staging to do to get our house ready for listing, so at least I was busy. I haven't stopped from morning until night. Painting, taking things to storage, grouting, carpet cleaning, moving furniture around, packing. Oh my God, the work it takes to sell a house you have lived in for ten years! If I have to clean up one more hair in that white bathroom of ours I am going to come unglued!

I sold my kiln yesterday. I seem to only be saying goodbye to things. I'm sort of ready for some new things to happen that I can say hello to.

Gerry worked like crazy covering the flooding in SC. He made the front page of the New York Times the other day. Very proud of him, those don't come along every day, but he has had a few of them. He said several times how nice the people are in South Carolin and how much he liked it there. Well, duh, you married a girl from there, haha!

Another one bowl lonely meal...... at least I have beautiful pottery to eat out of. I sure miss my family sitting down to a meal with me at night, talking about their day, sharing stories. Wesley is liking her job, liking California, so I suppose I should be happy about that at least.

I do know this. I am so very grateful to have a house that is clean and dry and cozy. I was fussing about how dirty the bathroom was the other day, then remembered all the folks that don't have a house right now and I remembered to be grateful. Prayers for those in the floods, my heart is heavy for my fellow South Carolinians......

Wishing you good things on wherever your next adventure takes you.

Good luck on this adventure. When I built my studio the deciding statement was " Buildings aren't getting any cheaper and I'm not getting any younger."
I almost told you that the last time you mentioned buying land. Make your dream come true while you are still able to enjoy it.

It is a huge job getting a house ready for sale. I did it twice in the last thirteen years. And, I'll be doing it all over again in a year. Hopefully the move will be to my "forever home" this time, in the search for a country property.

I agree with Dennis - they aren't, and we aren't :D

It's good to be busy and de-cluttering at this time, I think. Leaving you open to the opportunities the Universe will present to you.
A new chapter begins...

Wishing a safe return for Gerry, back to you.
xx

Do you know where you will land next? I don't envy the selling end of it. I've been in this house 22 years. Yikes the work i would need to do..It is why i keep plodding along doing bit by bit so hopefully my day for new adventures will also come. :D

Toes crossed that it sells quickly and that you land in a garden you love.
Congratulations to Gerry! I saw that Times photo and thought , "Well that just about sums it all up!"

Laurie, thanks! We are feeling good about this! If only that dream house would show up :)

Dennis, agreed! That's how I felt when i finally decided to build my studio. Now we are thinking maybe its time to build that house, but the fear factor is looming, haha!

Hi Vicki, thanks. Yes, staying busy helps fill very empty spaces and decluttering has felt amazing! Last night Gerry came in and said, why hasn't it always looked like this? HA! raising a kid, high school kids in and out, dog, work, pottery..... a full life lived in this place.

Z: we have no idea where we are going. Probably local for now..... we have been looking for three years with no luck, so we are trying it this way, forced relocation, haha! 10 years was the longest we have lived in one place and I still can't get over the accumulation of unnecessary objects. My house feels incredible now, lots of air space!

SC: my thoughts exactly on Gerry's photo, glad you thought the same. It seemed very iconic of SC flooding. Guess the Times thought so too:) Yes, fingers and toes crossed!!!!!

Timing is everything! Your home will sell and the perfect place will become available. It took us five years to find our place. It's not either of ours "dream home" but the location and price made it perfect for us. It will happen for you too.
I think focusing on your relocation will help with adjusting to your empty nest.

Hey Michele: I agree, its all about timing. I sold my kiln this week so I am hoping this is the portal to finding our house now.
I like the place you found, it doesn't have to be a dream house right away, you can make it yours!

ain't it the truth--having a house, being dry, just cleaning up and packing up vs salvaging and throwing out soggy, mildewy things! More transitions! Always more change. Good luck with it all. And the emotional effort of it all. I will be thinking of you.

Yes, there was mildew, eewww!
thanks Shannon, appreciate the thoughts! If you hear of a good house, let me know!

Going through stuff, sorting, making the load lighter, these are all hard but good things. I hope your house sells quickly and that you find joy in your new home too.

Thanks Lori, the load is definitely lighter, at least the load of stuff!
