Bury me like this

My blogger pal Jody sent me an email about these grave houses in Louisiana and I have been reading everything I can find on them. I had never heard of these before, but I want to be buried like this now! I would love to go see these one day.... it would be interesting to make cremation urns like this, hmmmm...
Thanks Jody for the photos!!

Here's a trailer for a movie made about these houses, enjoy.

I have a brother who lives in Alaska and once when I visited him his wife pointed out spirit house graves (I think we were in Eklutna). The natives started using the houses when they converted to Russian Orthodox religion since it forbade cremation, which is what they had done prior to the arrival of the Russians.
I didn't know there were these house graves in Louisiana, now I have to google it!

Hey Michele, I love the spirit houses and there are several potters that make them. Apparently these were made mostly to honor the person buried, and usually they were for small children, young mothers or "special" people. I had never seen them before, one more thing to love about bloggers!

I love these! Similar to tombs in Greece. People taking care of the dead....

" I want to be buried like this now..." How about we wait a while?

I love people taking care of the dead, Susan!
Dennis you are very lucky that we aren't building one of these for you right now! and yes, I am willing to wait a little longer, maybe mine will be a solar/geo thermal place, haha!

I am down with Eklutna too!! (thanks google). We've been doing this death/burial thing wrong for too long (well, obviously not everywhere!), time to mix it up a bit. My problem is I'll probably die in a rickety old shack, not be put in one after! Still, no need to move me, just make sure the kids fix the roof.

a fitting place for you tb.
Then again you could do your own.
And really let's wait a bit, okay?

Well come on down. We do All Hallow's Eve almost as good as Mardi Gras and on Nov.1st we white wash the graves and put fresh flowers on them.

first of all, a very happy belated birthday to you (i hate the days leading up to mine as well, more & more). these houses, a cozy keeping that my spirit would enjoy. maybe they could hold all of our personal treasures, better than a pyramid.

Hey Meredith, if my mom and grandmother are any barometer for me, I'll be around for about 50 more years!
I would love to come down and wash some graves!
Yes a personal treasures house!!! I love that idea!
