New tenant

Hey everyone, how are you on this yet again rainy morning. Has anyone built that ark yet? We're gonna need it soon....
A bird has built a beautiful nest in my studio. I haven't finished closing in the roof yet, had to make some pottery, and so this little bird has found it's way in. The nest is really a work of art, the leaves and sticks sort of cascade over my books. Guess I will have some babies soon, not such an empty nest after all! Meredith, it's going to be pretty weird if it's that blue bird that has hopped around here since Lee left!
When the over the pond visitors were here they came with gifts. Hollis sent this very pretty wall vase with Doug for my studio. I haven't decided yet what it will be used for, but I am liking my brushes in it right now. It may be for flowers, I could make a habit of bringing in fresh flowers to the studio, that would be nice. Hanna and Ang left me small gifts too, but I haven't photographed them yet, we'll save that for another post. I'm busy busy right now getting work priced and packed for the NC Craft gallery show that opens this coming Sunday. Wouldn't you know the reception will be Mother's Day weekend. I sent out a group email and got many many replies "I'll be out of town".
Maybe someone will come for the reception, it will be the Friday artwalk and hopefully people will be out for the wine and food. No worries, the show will be all month and I find it very hard to stand in front of my work and talk about it, so awkward. I do like meeting the folks that buy my work, but when they gush over it, I get skwirmy. It's very nice to hear and appreciated, but it's weird for me. Anyway, if you can make it to the reception, I would love to see you!
Well, I'm off to fire my kiln for a final load. How is it I have known about this show for a year and I am firing a kiln 4 days before the work is due? We all do this don't we?

oh babies in the house- I dreamed about babies last night.
All the empty nest talk I guess.
Just note that babies mean poop- protect your books with something.
That is a great vase and I love the look of the brushes in it.
Just think of all those Mothers who come to visit and the kids who will be on the lookout for some where to take them.
Hopefully your show!
This should be a great day to fire with the storm coming and brewing...

Love all of it! The birdies, the wall vase...and the rest is so nice to hear... These thoughts are like you said what I always am thinking... Same issue with the last post's part about whether it is all worth it at the sales end... I have backed off on that because frankly, it is SO catch as catch can.... One great sale or contact/commission can make all the difference in it.... I(let's talk about me...:)am feeling a pull toward a more art/gallery driven collection of work and yet functional draws me back in... All of this is irrelevant if I don't get my rear back in the studio... Of course, my son,Jake is starting high school in Sept and will be off in 4 years from then...and the little guy,Sam is 3 years later... I can't help but think how 7 years will fly and really ,why stress out(if I don't need to)while they are living here with us...same with the puppy!
Anyway, I guess the point is, that your words are wise and helpful as I cuddle up to read them. Thank you Tracy.

Bird in the studio is a good omen, I'd say!

A Carolina Wren has built her nest in my kiln room, she's got 5 eggs. Won't it be fun to watch the chicks as they grow.

How cool is that?! I LOVE birds nests! Mama must have known there is a lot of good, safe energy in that spot!

Love the new tenant, soon to be "tenants". A pair of moickingbirds have set up housekeeping in the holly bush just outside my office window. 4 eggs I think. It's a joy watching them. Brings an added delight to my workday.

Great luck with the sale!

Truly - 'build it and they will come!' lol - I agree that momma bird must have felt all that good energy.

This is the third year our eastern bluebirds have moved into the same (wooden) birdhouse (Bob builds). They birth their babies and fly away til next spring.
